The response that I get whenever I mention the avalibility of this class to my Garifuna peers a common response is I know how to speak the language. Then i woulld ask if they know how to read and write the language, the genereal response wwould be no it is to hard to read.
Marcus Garvey said that if you know more about anyone’s history more than you know your own then you are a slave. Every Garifuna will tell you that as a people we have never been enslaved. This is a fact but where and when did we get this slavish mentality. Garinagu are very educated people as far as western civilization is concern. Most of us that wave our degrees around become something else in the process of acquiring so call higher education. Learn about yourself and share it with your children. All you people that is proficient in the European languages, put the same sffort into learning how to read and write your gradmothers language. Uba seremein tun bagutu frenden bei binacio.
