In light of the 2010 World Cup About To Begin, I thought it would be interesting to note how many Garifuna players are on the Honduras 2010 World Cup Soccer or Football Team (Los Catrachos).

This blog posting has moved.  Click on the link to read the rest of this blog posting.

    Isn’t Carlos Pavon half garifuna?

    • June 5, 2010 at 12:43 am

      Thanks for writing DIOXI!

I saw a photo of Carlos Pavon yesterday afternoon in ESPN Magazine after publishing this post and wondered if he was Garifuna, based on his dark skin. Not sure though. Wasn’t able to get more information.

Was surprised that there doesn’t seem to be a website with close-up photos and bio information on EACH soccer or futbol player on the Honduran 2010 World Cup Soccer, Football or Futbol Team. At least, I wasn’t able to find any.

From asking around, I am told his father is Garifuna. I will try and get more details.

Thanks for writing DIOXI! When you find out if Carlos Pavon is indeed Garifuna, please let us at BEING GARIFUNA know! According to a website I saw CARLOS PAVON is the son of Costa Rican footballer or soccer player Allard Plummer. I don’t think Mr. Plummer is Garifuna.

Thanks for writing about the Garifuna Players on the Honduras Soccer Team Playing in the 2010 World Cup Tournament ANGELA PALACIO!

As I noted in the post, it was seeing your post on http://apalacioexchange.com that got me to write a little about it. I simply was curious about who was on the team and wondered just who was Garifuna.

I did all the research I could and the hope is that readers of BEING GARIFUNA can help provide more information (such as confirmation of) on which players on the team are Garifuna.

I was just wondering why you did not list David Suazo????

    • June 6, 2010 at 8:52 pm

Thanks for asking about Soccer Player David Suazo, AQUINA! I saw his name listed as a member of the 2010 Honduras National Soccer Team and wondered if he was Garifuna.

Earlier this afternoon, I saw a photo of DAVID SUAZO in The NY DAILY NEWS and now figure that he is Garifuna. In today’s paper, there was a supplement included in the newspaper on the 2010 World Cup Tournament.

Needless, I will now include DAVID SUAZO. Thanks for asking and letting me know AQUINA.

Carlos Alberto Pavón Plummer is actually bi-racial, he’s half mestizo and kreyol. Couple of my family members told me that when we were watching him since 2000.

Thanks so much for writing about Carlos Pavon, MZBLKCARIB! As you may have noticed, there are many questions as to whether Carlos Pavon is Garifuna or not. It’s not like there are Garifuna Identification Cards out there, (laughs). The more information that I come across, the more I figure that Carlos Pavon is NOT Garifuna.

Thanks for contributing and letting us know, MZBLKCARIB.

Okay, check this out: I just found out by watching Univision that a lot of the seleccion is related. Wilson Palacio’s Dad says his three sons are cousins with Figueroa, Thomas and Suazo.
